Though the Friendship Day is renowned with great pomp and show in all over the world but not much is known about how this celebration began. However many folktales and legendary stories disclose the fact that friendship has been esteemed as a connection since the beginning of the civilized world. As far as the international friendship day history is concerned it is said that in 1935 the first Sunday of August was announced as the Friendship Day. Since then the festivity of the Friendship Day became a yearly event in United Sates. Gradually this custom spread to other countries too and they knowing the friendship day importance, also began celebrating this day with much enthusiasm.

People around the world even being slightly aware of the real meaning of the day, indulge in a festive celebration of Friendship Day. But are you sure you really know what this day is all about and how the celebrations of the friends day originate? There is not much history that can be collected for this day but the fact that the US Congress declared world friendship day as the Friendship Day in the year 1935. Considering the significance of friendship we have dedicated one whole day for the commemoration of this virtuous relationship and gave it the name of Friendship Day. Friendship Day falls on the first Sunday of August every year. Friendship is not about leading or following, it is just being with each other to share each and every single moment of our lives. Friendship Day has been devoted to those friends who make our lives happier and easier and give a momentous direction to the course of our lives. There are a few people who believe that friendship is so powerful a relationship that it needs no extraordinary day for celebration. But then also it is a tried and tested fact that every relationship, no matter how powerful needs some credit and the Friendship Day allows you to do just the same that is it lets you give due acknowledgment to the attractive bond of friendship which you share with your friend.
Today, Friendship Day is passionately celebrated every year by numerous countries. The event is observed on the first Sunday of every August. The usual celebrations include gatherings with friends and sending friendship day cards, flowers and gifts. Many communal and cultural organizations also commemorate Friendship Day by hosting programs and get-togethers. Exceptional performances by rock bands are also arranged in countries like the US to boost the jubilations.
It is remarkable to note how several associations observe Friendship Day with special customs, by giving the event different names and sharing it in times unlike that of the actual celebration. For instance, National Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in August; Women's Friendship Day is on the third Sunday in August; the third week of May is the Old Friends, New Friends Week and the whole of February is chosen as the International Friendship Month.
