How To Track The Original Location Of An Email Via Its IP Address
Sometimes it’s really very important to keep track of emails and it’s essential to know from which location they are sent. For this purpose, you should know some technical details or you should have technical know how about email tracking. Two basic steps are involved in this process of email tracking, first you have to find the IP address in the header email header section and then simply find the location of IP address.
Method to find IP address of different email clients (Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo Mail)
We have different email clients; here we give you explanation for some of the most popular ones.
• Gmail
First you have to login to your email account, then open any email. After opening the email, there is an arrow at the right side Reply, then from a list you have to choose show original.

After this you have to press Ctrl+F, a dialog box will open there you have to type “Received: from”, as a result of above phrase it will show you many Received From’s in its message header.

Now in the Received From that’s farthest DOWN. As shown in the above figure (the highlighted one) the original sender of the mail is “aseem (my personal home computer” having an IP address 71.204.154.191 then the next routing path was My ISP server on eastrmmtao104.cox.net and so on.
• Microsoft Outlook
By double click; you have to open the email in outlook. Then you have to choose View at the top menu (this email menu not Outlook’s main menu) and then click on options.

A dialog box will appear in front of you; here you can set message options and at the end of dialog box you will see the Internet Headers box. You can see the text by scrolling your mouse or also copy the text and paste it in Notepad.

• Yahoo Mail Beta
First you have to login to your email account, then open any email. After opening the email, there is an arrow at the right side Reply, then from a list you have to choose show original. Now you will see a drop down option at the right top (Standard header selected by default), you have to select Full header.

Now the next step will be same as I explained above.

To Track the location of an IP address
Now you have got the IP address, next step is to find its location, you can do this by performing location lookup in the IP address (IP2Location http*//www.ip2location.com/free.asp , GeoBytes IP Locator http*//www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm etc). GeoBytes IP Locator gives you map of New Orleans with some other related information and this is because this example has the same location. Here is a screenshot of GeoBytes IP Locator. And IP2Location will also give same information similar to this.
